Cultivation

Origin: in Excelsior, Minnesota, by the Univ. of Minnesota Fruit Breeding Farm. Named in 1920; introd. in 1921. Prunus salicina ‘Burbank’ × P. americana ‘Wolf’; cross made in 1908; tested as Minn. 12; sibling of Mendota, Mound, Redcoat, Tonka. Tree: vigorous, spreading; productive; hardy; leaf large. Fruit: large; roundish oblong, base and apex flattened; skin medium thick, easily removed, deep bright red, bloom heavy, russet dots numerous; flesh yellow, firm, moderately juicy, sweet; quality good; stone large, broad, free; ripens in mid-season.
