Cultivation

Origin: in Brookings, S.D., by N.E. Hansen, South Dakota Agr. Expt. Sta. Introd. in 1949, by the Minnesota Fruit Breeding Farm, Excelsior, Minn., with the approval of the South Dakota Agr. Expt. Sta.; tested as S. Oak. 27. Parentage unknown but an American-Japanese hybrid; selected before 1907. Tree: excellent pollinizer for American-Japanese hybrid varieties; very hardy; productive; excellent parent for breeding hardy, freestone plums. Fruit: size medium; quality good; freestone.
