Characteristics

Usually small trees (rarely over 20 m) or shrubs, bark rough, brown to grey. Leaves elliptic to elliptic-oblong, (1.5-)2-6(-8.5) by l-3(-5) cm, apex obtuse or retuse, stiff-coriaceous, basal glands 2 or 4. Racemes 2-5 cm, pedicels 1-4 mm. Hypanthium 1.5-3(-3.5) mm high. Perianth segments usually subequal, sometimes regularly divided into sepals and petals, 0.5-1.5 mm long. Ovary glabrous. Fruits transversely ellipsoid to subglobular, 6-9 by 7-10.5 mm, hypanthium remnant under the fruits sometimes large, 1.5-5 mm.
