Origin: in Swedesboro. N.J., by Samuel Casella, Casella Bros. Sons, Swedesboro, and Earl E. Slaybaugh, Slaybaugh Bros. Nursery, Aspers, Pa. Plant patent 4406; 2 June 1978; assigned to Casella Bros. Sons with propagation and sales rights to Slaybaugh Bros. Nursery. Introd. in 1979. M.A. Blake mutation. Tree: similar to M.A. Blake, but hardier; resistant to canker and bacterial leaf spot. Fruit: resembles M.A. Blake, but strongerblushed red color, about 80% bright red; skin does not crack; freestone; good storage qualities; ripens 7 to 10 days before parent variety.
