Cultivation

Origin: in Palo Alto, Calif., by W.F. Wight, U.S. Dept. of Agriculture and the California Agr. Expt. Sta. Introd. in 1950. (Pratt Low × Tuscan) × Leader Seedling Cling; selected about 1936; tested as USDA W38-30B. Tree: vigorous; productive; leaf glands globose, small to medium; petals nonshowy, size medium. Fruit: medium to large; round, somewhat ovate; suture shallow, well-marked; skin yellow overlaid with lightly streaked red up to 25% of surface, pubescence average; flesh clear yellow, very little red at cavity, firm, fine-textured, nonmelting, flavor mild; commercial canning clingstone; ripens very early, about 10 days before Fortuna.
