Cultivation

Origin: in South Haven, Mich., by Stanley Johnston, Michigan Agr. Expt. Sta. Introd. in 1946. J.H. Hale × South Haven; cross made in 1930; selected in 1935. Tree: vigorous; scaffold limbs strong; bears well annually; fruit buds as hardy as Halehaven; sets heavily. Fruit: medium-large; nearly round; skin bright yellow with an attractive bright red cheek, smooth, very tough; flesh mediumyellow with some red at the pit, very firm, moderately fine-textured, flavor good, resists browning when cut; freestone; ripens about 3 weeks before Elberta, end of Redhaven season.
