Cultivation

Origin: in Fresno, Calif., by U.S. Dept. of Agriculture. lntrod. in 1974. Flavortop × 66-90 (F2 seedling of Red King, o.p.). Cross made in 1966; selected in 1969 by J.H. Weinberger; tested as F103-32. Tree: moderately vigorous and productive; flowers large, self-fertile; leaf glands reniform; medium chilling requirement. Fruit: large; ovate; skin blushed bright red over 80% to 100%, attractive; flesh yellow, firm, flavor excellent, texture smooth; ripens with Early Sungrand, a few days before Independence. Compared to Early Sungrand: more attractively colored, slightly larger, smoother shape.
