Origin: in New Brunswick, N.J., by M.A. Blake, New Jersey Agr. Expt. Sta. Named and introd. in 1937. Elberta × New Jersey 38 E.G.; cross made in 1923; tested as N.J. 87. Tree: vigorous, dormant fruit buds medium hardy, productive; flower large, showy; leaf glands reniform; chilling requirement 1050 h at or below 45F. Fruit: large; oval; skin yellow, deeply blushed, appearance especially attractive; flesh yellow, red streaked, sometimes greenish near pit, firm, melting, low acid, high quality; freestone; ripens in midseason, in mid-August in New Jersey, about 2 weeks before Elberta and 10 to 14 days after Jubilee; hangs well on tree.
