Cultivation

Origin: in Red Bluff, Calif., by Grant Merrill (deceased). Introd. in 1972. Plant patent 3589; 13 Aug. 1974. Fortyniner × Gemfree. Tree: size medium to large; vase-shaped; vigorous; heavy bearer for its season; flower medium small, pink to pinkishsalmon, abundant pollen; leaf glands reniform; with proper handling may be mechanically harvested in one picking. Fruit: 2 3/8 inch axial diam., 2 1/2-to 3-inch transverse diam.; globose to cordate with some tip; skin redder than Harmony; flesh moderate amygdalin, moderate juice, fine, mild, delicate, freestone; a shipping var.; ripens about 25 June.
