Origin: in New Brunswick, N.J., by M.A. Blake, New Jersey Agr. Expt. Sta. Introd. in 1948. Raritan Roge × [(J.H. Hale × Goldfinch) o.p.]; tested as N.J. 164. Tree: medium vigor, hardier than Elberta, high productivity; flower medium, nonshowy; leaf glands reniform; chilling requirement 800 h. Fruit: size medium; ovate, unequal halves; skin bright red over greenish-white ground, pubescence fairly heavy; flesh white, clingstone, melting, firm, quality fair; ripens 7 weeks before Elberta.
