Origin: in Red Bluff, Calif., by Grant Merrill, Exeter, Calif. Introd. in 1970. Plant patent pending. Seedling of J.H. Hale × (Hale × Levi) F2; discovered in 1967, tested as E287. Tree: large; vigorous, productivity heavy and regular. Recommended as an improvement over Carnival by ripening a little later and being a better commercial freezer variety. Fruit: large, round; skin highly colored; flesh yellow, little red, freestone; recommended for fresh use, freezing and shipping; ripens mid-to late September in Fresno.
