Origin: in Palo Alto, Calif., by W.F. Wight, U.S. Dept. of Agriculture and California Agr. Expt. Sta. Introd. in 1941. A clingstone seedling of Leader × (Tuscan × Paloro); tested as USDA W36-37A; sibling of Fortuna. Tree: vigorous; heavy producer; leaf glands globose, small to medium; flower nonshowy, size medium. No longer commercially planted. Fruit: medium to large, averaging 7.2 cm in diam.; nearly round, uniform; suture well-marked, shallow; skin deep golden yellow, blushed up to onefourth of surface, pubescence average; flesh clear yellow, pink to reddish at pit, finegrained, nonmelting, flavor mild, sweet, aroma very slight, quality good; commercial canning clingstone; ripens early, with Fortuna, just before Tuscan; resembles Fortuna.
