Cultivation

Origin: in Byron, Ga., by V.E. Prince of U.S. Dept. of Agriculture. Introd. in 1980. [(Southland × Sunhigh) o.p.] × (Dixiland × Keystone). Cross made in 1963; first fruited in 1966; tested as BY 4-7140. Tree: vigorous, productive, moderately susceptible to bacterial spot, chilling requirement 750 h; blossoms nonshowy, small petaled, selffertile; leaf glands globose. Fruit: large, round with a slight tip, 75% of surface bright red, under color yellow; flesh yellow with some red, firm, but melting, medium texture, flavor good; freestone; ripens 3 to 5 days after Harvester.
