Leaves: petiole 0·5-2·5 cm. long; rhachis 1·5-7·5 cm. long; pinnae opposite, 3-5(7) pairs; leaflets 7-15 pairs, 0·5-1·4(1·9) x 0·25-0·55(0·8) cm., oblong-elliptic, rounded or slightly emarginate and mucronate at the apex, normally puberulous on both surfaces, sometimes glabrous except for the midrib beneath.
Racemes (2)4-13 cm. long, on peduncles 0·3-1 cm. long; pedicels 1·5-5(7) mm. long; axes and pedicels densely puberulous or shortly pubescent, rarely subglabrous; bracts enlarged and 3-lobed or obtriangular at the apex.
Shrub or small spreading tree 3-6 m. high, forming coppice, sometimes scrambling; bark silvery-grey, smooth; young branchlets, petioles and rhachides densely puberulous; older branchlets longitudinally striate.
Pods 8·5-16 x 1·3-2·2 cm., attenuate below, blackish when dry, ± obliquely longitudinally striate.
Petals 3·5-5 mm. long, ± puberulous to almost glabrous outside.
Calyx 1-1·5 mm. long, puberulous or shortly pubescent.
Flowers cream-coloured, honey-scented.
Stamen-filaments 5-8 mm. long.
Ovary densely hairy.
Seed 10-12 x 7-9 mm.
