Characteristics

Shrubs to 1.5 m tall, the branchlets smooth, red when dry, the hairs few, the nodes well spaced, the lenticels dense but inconspicuous. Leaves narrowly ellip-tic or narrowly obovate elliptic, 9.5-13.5 cm long, 2.0-3.5 cm wide, narrowly acute toward the apex, acuminate, the acumen ca. 1 cm long, acute at the base, the costa prominulous or plane above, prominent beneath, the lateral veins ca. 17, arcuate, strongly ascending, papyraceous, drying concolorous, red, the hairs few, elongate or short, disposed on the costa and veins, often aggregated in the axils; petioles 0.3-0.5 cm long, slightly alate on the adaxial side; stipules oblong, to 1.5 cm long, to 0.5 cm wide, obtuse or subacute at the apex, papyraceous, drying red, the hairs few, red. Inflorescences terminal, erupting from the envel-oping terminal stipule, to 2 cm long, to 1 cm wide, densely ferrugineous puber-ulent. Flowers to 3 mm long; hypanthium short, the calycine cup spathaceous, deeply fissured, the fissure solitary, the teeth 5, in groups of 2 and 3, the cup petaloid, carnose, the hairs outside few, spreading, eglandular within, the teeth unequal, subulate, 1-2 mm long; corolla with the tube short, 3.5 mm long, ca. 1 mm wide, villose within near the filament attachment position, the lobes oblong, ca. 1.5 mm long; stamens 5, the anthers oblong, 0.7 mm long, the filaments 0.7 mm long, attached near the mouth, villose at the base; style ca. 1 mm long, thick, the stigmas ca. 0.35 mm long; ovarian disc pulviniform, ca. 0.5 mm long. Fruits not seen.
