Shrub 2–3 m. tall; stems glabrous or slightly pubescent when very young.. Leaf-blades oblong-elliptic, 6–12 cm. long, 2–4 cm. wide, acute at the apex, cuneate at the base, ± coriaceous, somewhat shining above, drying reddish brown; very young leaves with ferruginous cobwebby indumentum beneath but soon entirely glabrous on both surfaces or with sparse hairs beneath; midrib impressed above; nodules numerous, situated along the midrib; petiole 0.5–1.5 cm. long, ferruginous pubescent in young leaves but soon glabrous; stipules bilobed, the base oblong-triangular, 0.5–1.1 cm. long, the narrow acuminate lobes 3 mm. long, with indumentum similar to the petiole.. Flowers heterostylous, 5-merous, in rather congested sparsely branched panicles 5–8 cm. long; peduncle 3–6 cm. long (said by Petit to be bialate), pubescent to glabrous; secondary branches up to 5 mm. long; pedicels up to 0.5 mm. long, glabrous or hairy; bracts small.. Calyx hairy or glabrous; tube 0.75 mm. long; limb cupuliform, 1 mm. long, the margin scarcely or only shortly dentate.. Corolla white, glabrous outside; tube 3.75–5 mm. long; lobes ± 3 mm. long.. Stamens with filaments 3 mm. long in short-styled flowers, practically absent in long-styled flowers.. Styles 3.5 mm. long in long-styled flowers, 5.5 mm. long in short-styled flowers; stigma-lobes 0.5–1 mm. long.. Drupes not seen.
