Shrubs or trees 3-8 m tall, the branchlets strongly ascending, smooth, gla-brous, the nodes well spaced or occasionally crowded. Leaves numerous at the tips of the twigs, elliptic or salicoid, rarely obovate elliptic, 4.5-9.0 cm long, 1-3 cm wide, attenuate toward the apex, acuminate, the acumen to 1.5 cm long, ultimately obtuse, basally cuneate or attenuate acute, the lateral veins 10-12, arcuate, conspicuous and prominulous beneath, the intervenal areas smooth, the ultimate veinlets often evanescent, the margin usually lightly revolute, subcoria-ceous to stiffly chartaceous, concolorous or discolorous, often drying red, gla-brate; petioles to 1.5 cm long; stipules deciduous or persistent, connate at the base, the free portions oblong, to 1.2 cm long, usually retuse at the apex, the 2 awns short, obtuse, stiff, glabrescent. Inflorescences terminal, glabrous to mi-nutely pubescent, cymose paniculate, to 12 cm long, to 9 cm wide, the peduncle absent or to 8 cm long, the branches few, opposite; bracts ovate, to 1 mm long, deciduous, pedicels slender, rigid, 2-5 mm long. Flowers with hypanthium short, puberulent, the calycine cup scarcely measurable, the teeth either obsolete or widely triangular, to 1 mm long; corolla white, the tube funnelform, 3-5 mm long, puberulent outside, densely barbate below the mouth within, the lobes 5, oblong, to 2.5 mm long, stiff, lightly cucullate; stamens 5, the anthers oblong, ca. 1 mm long on short filaments attached near the middle of the tube; style slender, gla-brous. Fruits oblong rotund to rotund, ca. 0.6 mm long, drying dark, sulcate, glabrous.
