Characteristics

Leaves (3)7–20 x (1.3)3.5–8 cm., elliptic, oblong or narrowly oblong-elliptic, acuminate at the apex, cuneate at the base, thinly coriaceous; lateral nerves rather prominent in dried state; bacterial spots few to numerous, very evident, ± 1 mm. in diam., dispersed throughout the lamina; domatia usually present, small, ± pilose; petiole 1–3 cm. long; stipules 5–10 mm. long, ovate-triangular, biacuminate at the apex for 2–5 mm., ± glabrous or mostly with ferruginous hairs on margins and keels or all over and ferruginous pilose within.

Flowers heterostylous, 5-merous, in branched panicles 2–6 cm. long, the lower inflorescence-nodes with branches in 4’s arranged X-wise; peduncle 2.5–5.5 cm. long, ± narrowly 2-winged; bracts small; pedicels up to 1 mm. long, attaining 1–3 mm. in fruit.
Subshrubby herb from woody rhizome or small shrub, 0.3–1 m. tall; stems bicostate and finely ridged in dry state; glabrous save for some hairs around some of the domatia, stipules and sometimes petioles.
Corolla probably white; tube 1–2.5 mm, long; lobes 1–1.5 mm. long; filaments in short-styled flowers 1.7 mm. long, in long-styled flowers 0.2 mm. long.
Seeds 4–4.5 x 3.5–4 x 2–2.5 mm., hemispherical, with U-shaped median fissure on flattened ventral surface but rest of albumen not ruminate.
Style 1.7 mm. long in short-styled flowers, c. 3.5 mm. long in long-styled flowers; stigma lobes 0.5–0.7 mm. long.
Drupes red, 5–7 mm. in diam., subglobose, with 2 pyrenes; pyrenes similar to the seeds.
Calyx tube ± 0.5 mm. long; limb 0.3–0.4 mm. long, ± truncate or shallowly lobed.
