Characteristics

Leaves drying grey-green, 4.5–7.5 x 0.9–3 cm., elliptic, oblong-elliptic or ± obovate-elliptic, shortly acuminate at the apex, cuneate at the base, glabrous above and beneath save for red pubescence on midrib, venation drying reddish brown beneath; petiole 3–6 mm. long, densely ciliate with red hairs where blade is decurrent on each side; stipules ± 7 mm. long, divided into 2 acuminate lobes ± 5 mm. long, ± ciliate and base of stipules rufo-pubescent particularly on the main-nerves.

Inflorescences with short peduncles ± 5 mm. long, ± 5-flowered, the involucres about 13 x 5 mm. made up of± ovate bracts up to 14 x 6 mm., glabrous save for ferruginous marginal ciliae, shortly acuminate; pedicels ± 1 mm. long.
Corolla colour not recorded; tube ± 5 mm. long, cylindrical with broadly funnel-shaped throat, 1 mm. wide at base and ± 3 mm. wide at throat, glabrous; lobes c. 2 x 1.2 mm., ovate.
Rhizomatous subshrub, with ± ascending slender unbranched ± herbaceous flowering stems 25–30 cm. tall, bifariously rufo-pubescent above, ± glabrous beneath; rhizomes slender.
Style exserted 2–2.5 mm. in long-styled flowers, the stigmatic lobes ± 0.8 mm. long.
Calyx ±1.2 mm. long, the limb distinctly toothed, ± ciliate.
