Shrub 0.3–2.7 m. tall; stems slender, covered with dense almost velvety ferruginous pubescence when young, the older dark purplish brown, glabrescent.. Leaf-blades narrowly elliptic, 2–11 cm. long, 0.7–3 cm. wide, acute or usually shortly acuminate at the apex, cuneate at the base, ± discolorous, usually drying dark reddish brown beneath, glabrous above and beneath save for ferruginous pubescence on the midrib beneath and sometimes also a few hairs on the lateral nerves as well; nodules situated in the midrib but linear and not readily visible; petiole 0.3–1.5 cm. long, with ferruginous pubescence similar to young stems; stipules prominently bilobed, the base ovate-triangular, 2–3.5 mm. long, the lobes acuminate, 2–3.5 mm. long, pubescent, deciduous.. Flowers heterostylous, 5-merous, in sparsely branched panicles 3–6 cm. long; peduncles slender, 0.5–2 cm. long, puberulous; secondary branches ± 4 mm. long; pedicels 1–2.5 mm. long, glabrous or puberulous; bracts and bracteoles minute.. Calyx puberulous or glabrescent; tube turbinate, 0.5–0.8 mm. long; limb cupuliform, ± 0.5 mm. long, the lobes triangular, 0.25 mm. long.. Corolla white, glabrous outside; tube 2–2.75 mm. long; lobes oblong or ovate-triangular, 1.5–2 mm. long, 1 mm. wide, appendaged at the apex.. Stamens with filaments 1.25 mm. long in short-styled flowers, included in long-styled flowers.. Seeds semiglobose, 4 mm. long, 4.2 mm. wide, 2.8 mm. thick, with 2 parallel median grooves on the ventral surface but albumen otherwise entire.
