Characteristics

Scandent bush or climber, 3.5–7 m. tall, with short lateral branches almost at right-angles to stem, glabrous; young stems square and furrowed.. Leaf-blades narrowly to broadly elliptic, 5.3–11 cm. long, 2–6 cm. wide, acuminate at apex, acute at base, stiffly papery to subcoriaceous, dull to shiny above; lateral nerves in 4–5 main pairs; tertiary nerves completely obscure; domatia absent or occasionally present in axils of lateral nerves or tertiary nerves (but not in Flora area); petioles 6–10 mm. long; stipules with a truncate base and linear lobe perpendicular to base, 3–6 mm. long.. Flowers 5-merous, borne in sessile to subsessile 5–10-flowered umbellate cymes; peduncle not exceeding 1 mm. long in flowering stage; pedicels 2–3(–4–6) mm. long (in flowering stage), glabrous; bracteoles inconspicuous.. Calyx-tube ± 0.75 mm. long, glabrous; limb reduced to a dentate rim.. Corolla cream-yellow; tube 3–4 mm. long, with ring of deflexed hairs below mid-point inside; lobes oblong-ovate 2.5–4 mm. long, 1.5 mm. wide with tapering apiculum, 0.75–1.25 mm. long, sparsely pubescent towards base above.. Filaments moderately well developed; anthers ovate, less than 1/3 as long as corolla-lobes, reflexed.. Style 5.5 mm. long; stigmatic knob cylindrical above, widening at base, 0.75–1 mm. long.. Disk glabrous.. Fruit ± didymous, 0.75–0.8(–1) cm. long, 1.3–1.5 cm. wide; pedicels somewhat accrescent; pyrenes circular in outline, 0.8 mm. in diameter, on either side with a shallow groove from point of attachment to centre, slightly bullate.
