Characteristics

A tree up to 8.5 m. tall; young branches square, very slightly winged, puberulous; older stems covered with greyish fissured bark.. Leaves not restricted to apices of branches; blades broadly elliptic to round, 2–4.5 cm. long, 1.3–4 cm. wide, obtuse to rounded at apex, acute at base, coriaceous, very shiny above, entirely glabrous or puberulous on midrib beneath; lateral nerves in 4–5 main pairs; tertiary nerves obscure to apparent, coarsely reticulate; domatia usually present as glabrous cavities; petioles 2–5 mm. long, puberulous; stipules 4–5 mm. long, triangular at base, terminating in a linear, somewhat keeled lobe.. Flowers 4–5-merous, borne in subsessile to shortly pedunculate 5–10-flowered subumbellate cymes; peduncles 2–4 mm. long; pedicels 3–7 mm. long, puberulous; bracteoles inconspicuous.. Calyx-tube 1.5 mm. long, puberulous towards base; limb 0.75 mm. long, shortly toothed.. Corolla-tube 2 mm. long, with deflexed hairs near top inside; lobes narrowly oblong, 4.75 mm. long, 1.25–1.5 mm. wide, acute to obtuse.. Anthers ± oblong, reflexed.. Style 5 mm. long; stigmatic knob 1.5 mm. long.. Disk glabrous.. Fruit (only known from 1-seeded fruit) ± spherical, 4–5 mm. in diameter; pyrene broadly ellipsoid, 4.5 mm. long, 3mm. wide and thick, rugulose.
