Characteristics

Leaves often restricted to apices of branches; blades 2.7–6.5 × 1 × 4.5 cm, narrowly elliptic to round or obovate, rounded or sometimes obtuse at apex, acute or tending to be attenuate at the base, frequently recurved, eventually coriaceous, very shiny on upper surface; lateral nerves in 3–4 main pairs; tertiary nerves moderately coarsely reticulate, prominent on both surfaces; domatia present as small glabrous pockets; petioles 4–7 mm long; stipules 1.5–3 mm long, shortly truncate-triangular at base, bearing a linear somewhat keeled lobe.

Semi-scandent shrub or tree 2–5 m tall, sometimes said to be deciduous, usually with short horizontal (or slightly reflexed when young) lateral branches, glabrous; bark pale grey, often with tissue-like flakes peeling off younger stems.
Flowers 5-merous, borne in subsessile 10–20-flowered subumbelliform cymes; peduncles 1–3 mm long; pedicels 4–12 mm long, glabrous; bracteoles inconspicuous.
Corolla tube 3–3.5 mm long, with a ring of deflexed hairs at the throat; lobes 3–4 × 1–1.5 mm, oblong, acute and thickened at apex.
Pyrene 7 × 5 mm, with a crest at the apex and rounded at the base, fawn-coloured, rugulose.
Calyx tube 1–1.25 mm long, glabrous, limb reduced to a repand limb, c. 0.5 mm long.
Fruit 7.5–8 × 11–12 mm, prominent at the apex; pedicels accrescent.
Pollen presenter 1.5 mm long; disk glabrous.
Style 7.5–8 mm long.
Anthers reflexed.
