Characteristics

Leaf blades 4–12 × 2–6 cm, elliptic or more often broadly elliptic, sometimes ovate, acuminate at apex, acute and sometimes attenuate at base, coriaceous, distinctly shiny on upper surface, moderately shiny beneath, somewhat discolorous (when dry); midrib somewhat prominent on both surfaces, drying pale; lateral nerves 5(6) in main pairs, apparent but not conspicuous; tertiary nerves obscure; domatia absent, or present as glabrous pits; petioles 4–8 mm long; stipules 5–7 mm long, triangular, somewhat keeled.

Flowers 4–5-merous, borne in shortly pedunculate 20–60-flowered subumbellate cymes; peduncle 2–7 mm long; pedicels 3–8 mm long, sparsely pubescent to pubescent; bracts and bracteoles inconspicuous.
Corolla white; tube 3–3.5 mm long, with a ring of deflexed hairs at the throat; lobes 3–3.25 × 1.25–1.5 mm long, oblong, acute and thickened at the apex.
Shrub or tree 2.5–9 m tall, glabrous; young branches terete or sometimes square in section; bark dark greyish-brown.
Calyx tube 1.25 mm long, glabrous; limb reduced to a dentate rim, ciliate.
Immature fruit 8 × 5.5 mm; pedicels accrescent, up to 10 mm long.
Pollen presenter 1.5 mm long; disk glabrous.
Style 6–8.5 mm long.
Anthers reflexed.
