Characteristics

Scandent shrub 3–5 m. tall; branchlets inserted at right-angles, pubescent when young, later covered with greyish white bark.. Leaves not restricted to apices of branches; blades elliptic to ovate, 1–6 cm. long, 0.7–3.5 cm. wide, obtuse to rounded at apex, obtuse to rounded or occasionally subcordate at base, coriaceous, shiny above, margins recurved; lateral nerves in 3–4 main pairs; tertiary nerves faintly apparent beneath, coarsely reticulate; domatia present, glabrous or pubescent; petioles 1–3 mm. long; stipules with a shallow base; lobe caducous, narrowly oblong, sometimes somewhat spathulate, 3–5 mm. long, at right-angles to stem.. Flowers 5-merous, borne in 1–2-flowered sessile fascicles, often at apical node; pedicels 3–7 mm. long in flowering stage, glabrous; bracteoles inconspicuous.. Calyx-tube ±1.5 mm. long, glabrous; limb dentate, 1 mm. long, ciliate.. Corolla white; tube 3–4 mm. long, with a ring of deflexed hairs above the middle inside; lobes oblong, 3 mm. long, 1.25 mm. wide, with an apiculum up to 0.75 mm. long, pubescent towards apex outside.. Anthers reflexed.. Style 6.5 mm. long; stigmatic knob 1.25 mm. long, ribbed.. Disk glabrous.. Fruit only known from 1-seeded examples, obovate in outline, 7–8 mm. long; pedicel accrescent, 1.7 cm. long.
