Characteristics

Leaf blades 2.2–4 × 1.4–2.6 cm, broadly elliptic to round, rounded or obtuse at apex, obtuse to rounded or sometimes truncate at base, coriaceous, moderately shiny on upper surface, usually recurved at margins, glabrous; lateral nerves in 3–4 main pairs; tertiary nerves reticulate or almost obscure; domatia present as erupted or unerupted blisters, glabrous; petioles 1.5–2.5 mm long; stipules 1.5–2 mm long, triangular with an acuminate decurrent lobe, puberulous outside.

Pyrene 6 × 4 × 4 mm, almost semicircular in outline with a groove extending from point of attachment to the lateral faces, and a small irregular crest from point of attachment to the apex, strongly sculptured.
Corolla creamy-white; tube 3–3.5 mm long, pubescent and with a ring of deflexed hairs at throat; lobes 2.75–3 × 1.5–1.75 mm, ovate, acute and thickened towards the apex.
Flowers 4-merous, borne in pedunculate 15–30-flowered corymbs; peduncles 5–12 mm long puberulous; pedicels 2–4(8) mm long, puberulous; bracteoles inconspicuous.
Tree 3–10 m tall; young branches square in cross section, pubescent; bark dark greyish with fine vertical fissures.
Fruit 7 × 10 mm, broadly oblong in outline, bilobed but only slightly indented at the apex.
Calyx tube 1–1.25 mm long, sparsely puberulous; limb 0.5 mm long, repand, ciliate.
Pollen presenter 1 mm long; disk pubescent.
Style 7.5–8.5 mm long.
Anthers reflexed.
