Characteristics

Tree or shrub up to 2 m.; very young stems glabrous or puberulous, later covered with whitish bark.. Leaves restricted to apices of new branches or not; blades elliptic, 3–8 cm. long, 1.5–3.4 cm. wide, obtuse at apex, acute or obtuse at base, coriaceous, somewhat shiny above, glabrous; lateral nerves in 4–5 main pairs; tertiary nerves coarsely reticulate; domatia present as small erupted blisters; petioles 0.6–1 cm. long, puberulous or glabrous; stipules with triangular base 1.5–2.5 mm. long, apiculate or lobed and ± 3 mm. long when immature.. Flowers 4-merous, borne in sessile 10–30-flowered subumbellate cymes; pedicels 6–10 mm. long, glabrous or pubescent; bracteoles inconspicuous.. Calyx-tube ± 1 mm. long, glabrescent; limb reduced to a repand rim.. Corolla-tube 3.5–4 mm. long, with deflexed hairs at throat; lobes narrowly oblong, 2–3 mm. long, 1–1.5 mm. wide, rounded.. Anthers reflexed, linear.. Style 8–9 mm. long; stigmatic knob 1–1.25 mm. long.. Fruit almost didymous or broadly oblong in outline, 6 mm. long, 10 mm. wide, slightly indented; pyrene almost semicircular in outline, 6 mm. long, cartilaginous, slightly rugulose.
