Shrub or tree 1.5–9 m. tall (also described as a dwarf shrub 0.3 m. tall); very young stems pubescent; older stems with greyish bark.. Leaves restricted to green stems or sometimes on mature stems; blades ovate or sometimes elliptic or round, 1.3–3 cm. long, 0.9–2.7 cm. wide, obtuse or sometimes rounded at apex, rounded to truncate or occasionally subcordate at base, herbaceous to subcoriaceous, somewhat shiny and glabrous above, sparsely pubescent on midrib beneath; lateral nerves in 3–4 main pairs, impressed above; tertiary nerves apparent; domatia present as membranous ciliate pockets; petioles not exceeding 2 mm. long; stipules triangular-acuminate, 3–4 mm. long, keeled when mature.. Flowers scented (described as sweet or foetid), 4-merous, borne in (5–)12–70-flowered, compact, pedunculate corymbs; peduncle 0.3–1.5 cm. long, pubescent; inflorescence-branches acutely angled; pedicels 0.2–1.3 cm. long, pubescent; bracteoles inconspicuous.. Calyx-tube 1 mm. long, broader than long, glabrous or with a few hairs towards base; limb 0.5–0.75 mm. long, irregularly dentate.. Corolla greenish cream; tube 1.5–2 mm. long, pubescent at throat but lacking definite ring of deflexed hairs; lobes oblong, 2.5–3 mm. long, 1.5 mm. wide, obtuse.. Anthers reflexed..
