Involucral bracts 5-or 6-seriate, imbricate, very narrowly ovate, apex acute or subacute, margins membranous, minutely ciliate, tinged red, finely puberulous. Flowers: disc florets only, yellow; Aug.-Oct. Fruit with cypsela oblong-linear, densely villous. Pappus of purplish red bristles, barbellate, biseriate.
