Characteristics

A small scrubby bush up to about 0.3 m [as '1 ft.'] high; branches glabrous, sometimes viscid towards the apex, with short internodes. Leaves opposite, usually very crowded and tufted, oblong or oblong-lanceolate, obtuse, very slightly connate at the base, about 2 mm long or less, fleshy, very minutely puberulous or almost glabrous on the margins. Heads terminal, solitary, subcampanulate, 2 cm long, about 1 cm in diameter. Involucral bracts dull green, 6-7-seriate, the outermost very broadly ovate, about 4 mm long, the innermost oblong, about 1 cm long, all rounded at the apex, viscid outside, very minutely ciliolate. Receptacle small. Corolla 1.2 cm long, glabrous; lobes lanceolate, subacute, 3.5 mm long. Anthers exserted beyond the tips of the corolla lobes. Achenes compressed, obovate, 5 mm long, villous with long stiff hairs from near the base. Pappus straw-coloured, 1 cm long.
