Characteristics

Monoicous (autoicous), large, pale brown, on bark, pendulant. Stem to 20 cm long, 250 µ in diameter, pale brown, regularly bipinnate. Primary branches to 4 cm long. Stem leaves about 2.5 mm long, 1.5 broad, oval, con-cave, overlapping and slightly crossing the stem, ventral margin incurved, apex acute, margin dentate, especially near the apex, base broad, lobule small, with apex acute. Marginal cells 10-12 cells in the centre of the lobe about 12 x 20 µ, basal cells elongate, to 36 µ long, walls of equal thick-ness, usually thin, trigones small. Amphigastria large, oval, 4 times as wide as the stem, truncate-slightly emarginate, margins usually reflex, sinus also frequently reflexed, base cordate. Perianth pyriform-clavate, to 3times longer than wide, 10-plicate, plicae ± inflated, rostrum 80-90 µ long. Female bracts in one pair, somewhat smaller than the leaves, dentate, lobule small. Bracteole oval-obovate, apex rotundate-slightly emarginate. Androecia in special branches or intercalary on branches with female organ, bracts in 5-12 pairs, lobule large, obtuse.
