Characteristics

An undershrub 1–3 m. tall.. Young shoots glabrous.. Leaves crowded towards the ends of the branches; petiole 3–8 cm. long, narrowly winged, glabrous; leaf-blade elliptic-lanceolate, (15–)20–30 cm. long, (5.5–)7–9 cm. wide, acutely gradually acuminate, attenuate to the acute base and continuous with the petiolar wings, entire firmly chartaceous, lateral nerves 11–14 pairs, looped well within the margin, midrib and lateral nerves scarcely prominent above, prominent beneath, tertiary nerve network slightly prominent above and beneath, quite glabrous.. Stipules 0.. Raceme laxly flowered, pedunculate, up to 10 cm. long; axis evenly to densely pubescent pilose; ♂ bracts not reflexed, broadly ovate, concave, 3 mm. long, 3 mm. wide, entire sericeous-pubescent without, glabrous within, 1–2(–3)-flowered.. Male flowers: pedicels up to 2 cm. long, densely pubescent-pilose; sepals 4, ovate, 3–4 mm. long, 3 mm. wide, subacute or obtuse, sparingly pubescent without, ± glabrous within, cream-white; disc-gland mass ± glabrous; stamens 30–40, 8 mm. long, the filaments cream white, anthers 0.5 mm. long.. Female flowers: sepals 5, ovate-lanceolate, 4 mm. long 1.5 mm. wide, acute, pubescent without, glabrous within; ovary trilobate, 2 mm. long 2.5 mm. diameter, each lobe with two deltoid dorsal horns, velvety-pubescent; style united only at the base or ± free, 7–8 mm. long, densely pubescent.. Fruits triloba, 6-horned, 0.8–1 cm. long, 1.2–1.5 cm. diameter, densely velutinous-tomentose.. Seed spherical, 6 mm. diameter, brown.
