Characteristics

Erect herb or soft shrub 1-2.5 m tall, woody at the base, branched or sometimes several-stemmed from the base; stems usually branched especially towards the apex, occasionally simple. Leaves petiolate; blade narrowly to broadly ovate, (45-)50-120 x(30-)40-70 mm, subglabrous to densely pubescent on both sides, apex acute, base obtuse to truncate, margin regularly crenate; petiole 10-50 mm. Inflorescence borne on the ends of the ascending branches, the central one the largest (50-)70-100 x 25-30 mm; bracts linear to spathulate, ciliate, 4-5 mm long. Calyx sparingly pubescent, reddish purple; teeth 8-10 mm long. Corolla gentian blue or rarely whitish, 12-20 mm long.
