Climber up to 10 m. long; stems slender, densely pubescent, ferrugineous when young, tending to become glabrous with maturity.. Leaf-blade ovate to elliptic, 6–18 cm. long, up to 10 cm. wide, acuminate, broadly cuneate to subcordate, undulate, with hydathodes present, ± discolorous, glabrous, grey-green above, densely pubescent, grey to yellowish beneath, with the midrib and ± 5 pairs of secondary veins densely hirsute and prominent beneath; petiole 1.5–4.5 cm. long, ± channelled, twisted, ferrugineous and somewhat glabrescent in older leaves.. Flowers dioecious, borne in fasciculate or rarely solitary racemes, axillary or supraxillary in female only; peduncle 3–10 cm. long, puberulous; pedicels 1–1.5 mm. long.. Male flowers subtended by bracts up to 0.5 mm. long; perianth parts 4, united at the base, oblong to elliptic, up to 2 mm. long, glabrous within, pubescent outside; stamens with very short filaments; ovary replaced by a few short hairs.. Female flowers subtended by larger bracts than male (up to 2 mm. long); perianth parts as in male but only up to 1.5 mm. long; ovary subglobose, densely pubescent, ferrugineous; stigma sessile, persistent..
