Origin: near Paris, France, by Nomblot Nursery and Institut National de la Recherche Agronomique, Angers, France. Parentage unknown, but probably open-pollinated seedling of Doyenne du Comice; discovered in 1950. Tree: upright, then spreading; moderately vigorous; very productive; tolerant to scab, drought and high temperatures: strong tendency to parthenocarpy; compatible with quince rootstocks. Fruit: size medium to large; short pyriform; skin thick, fairly tough, deep yellow almost overlain with russet; flesh texture fine, melting, juicy, flavor sweet-subacid, quality outstanding; ripens a few days before Doyenne du Comice; recommended for fresh market.
