Cultivation

Origin: in Tacoma, Wash., by Thomas F. Wells. Introd. in 1971. Plant patent 2985; 28 July 1970. Chance seedling, discovered in 1921, selected in 1958, first propagated in 1968. Tree: size medium prolific and annual bearer; hardy. Fruit: size variable, rounded pyriform slightly flattened at calyx end, shape distinctly different than other varieties ripening same season; skin yellowish-green ground color with reddish blush; flesh cream-colored, high sugar content; recommended for canning, requires less sugar than Bartlett, possibly has dietetic value for low sugar diets.
