Origin: in Cartertown, Ont., Canada, by David Tait. Introd. in 1928 by Skinner's Nursery, Dropmore, Manitoba, Canada. Open-pollinated seedling of Patten; discovered about 1935. Tree: upright-spreading; vigorous; very hardy; partially resistant to fire blight; productive. Fruit: small, up to 2 inches in diam.; pyriform; irregular; skin greenish-yellow, blushed dull carmine, thick; flesh dull yellow, coarse, gritty; flavor sweet, pleasant as dessert fruit, fair as sauce; season early to mid-September.
