Cultivation

Russeted sport of Doyenne du Comice from New Zealand. Origin: discovered in 1985 by Michael and Wendy King-Turner as a bud mutation of Doyenne du Comice in their orchard in Motueka, New Zealand. USPP 8308 issued 20 July 1993. Tree: vigor, growth habit, and bloom date same as Comice; vegetative budbreak is about a week earlier than Comice. Fruit: slightly smaller but same shape as standard Comice; skin completely russeted, brown, sometimes with a red blush; flesh fine, melting, juicy like Comice.
