Characteristics

Erect suffrutex, not much-branched, up to 0.6 m high. Leaves round, obovate, elliptic, broadly obovate, often penninerved; leaves on flowering branches invariably opposite, 20-33 x 9-15(-18)mm; basal leaves 25-44 x14-26 mm. Inflorescences single-flowered, secondarily aggregated towards branch ends into globose flowering branches (heads). Flowers 10-14 mm long. Pedicel 2-5 mm long. Bract narrowly triangular to linear, 1-2 mm long. Bracteoles 0.3-0.4 mm long. Calyx lobes triangular to narrowly triangular, ± as long as or shorter than the tube, 3-5 mm long; upper lobes ± as broad as the lateral lobes; lobes often curl backwards over the tube in old flowers; upper sinus rarely deeper than the others; tube 3-4 mm long. Standard broadly ovate, slightly folded in along the lower edges, 9-11(-14) x10-13 mm; without an apical cusp; claw 2-3 mm long. Wings oblong, 7-10 x 4-5 mm; apex obtuse; claw not broadly attached to the blade, 4-5 mm long. Keel almost rostrate, slightly lobed below the apex, 7-8 x 3-4 mm; claw ± 4 mm long. Stamens monadelphous. Pistil with the style slightly incurved towards the apex, shorter than or ± as long as the ovary; ovules 2; stigma small, fibrillose. Pods ± oblong, 14-16 x 5-8 mm; stipe 4-5(-8)mm long; upper margin convex; lower margin straight, proximally convex, sharply upcurved into the stipe. Seeds cordate-reniform or broadly oblong to suborbicular or sometimes oblique-cordiform, 3-5 x 3-5 mm; sinus deep; testa rough.
More
