Characteristics

Erect, much-branched, virgate suffrutex or shrublet up to 0.6 m high. Leaves ovate or round or obovate or broadly elliptic, often penninerved; apex sometimes acuminate base often round; leaves on flowering branches invariably opposite, 31-45 x (12-)16-34 mm; basal leaves 46-76 x 29-60 mm. Inflorescences single-flowered, secondarily aggregated towards branch ends into large, pyramidal flowering branches. Flowers 11-14(-17) mm long. Pedicel 5-7 mm long. Bract linear to narrowly triangular, 1-2 mm long. Bracteoles ± 0.5 mm long. Calyx lobes triangular to narrowly triangular, ± as long as or shorter than the tube, 3-6 mm long; upper lobes broader than the others; tube 4 mm long. Standard oblong, 8-12 x 8-12 mm, with or without an apical cusp; claw 3-5 mm long. Wings oblong, 8-11 x 5-6 mm; apex obtuse; claw broadly attached to the blade, 4-5 mm long. Keel symmetrically truncate, without a broad lobe below apex, 7-10 x 4-6 mm; claw 4-5 mm long. Stamens monadelphous. Pistil short-stipitate; ovary ± oblong to narrowly ovate; style not incurved towards the apex; ovules 2; stigma small, fibrillose. Pods sessile, broad-!y obliquely lanceolate, 30-40 x 14-18 mm; upper margin slightly asymmetrically convex, broadly winged; wing 5 mm wide; lower margin straight, proximally convex, very broad. Seeds cordate-reniform or broadly oblong to oblique-cordiform, 4-5 x 4-5 mm; sinus shallow; testa rough.
