Characteristics

Perennial herb, often with a rather stout rootstock, stems up to 9 cm. long but sometimes scarcely any above soil level, with 1 to 3 flowers.. Basal leaves trisect, the segments with cuneate, often rather broad, bases; segments elliptic to oblate in general outline often more or less trilobed and coarsely toothed, terminal 8–21 mm. long, 7–21 mm. broad, dense more or less adpressed hairs on both surfaces, ciliate at margins; petiole up to 5.5 cm. long.. Sepals spreading, with long silky hairs on the outer surface.. Petals yellow, up to 4–4.5 mm. long.. Achenes in spherical heads on pedicels reflexed in ripe fruit, short beaks, smooth faces..
