Perennial herb with suberect or procumbent stems.. Elongated cylindrical somewhat thickened roots.. Stems 0.6–3.3 dm. long, with few scattered hairs or glabrous, often little branched.. Basal leaves with blades ternately palmatisect, segments pinnatilobed or pinnatisect or coarsely toothed, the lobes, segments, or teeth obtuse to rounded, with long spreading hairs on lower surface, glabrous or nearly so on upper surface; petiole up to 20 cm. long.. Sepals spreading, caducous, glabrous.. Petals generally 7–8, oblong, narrow, 5–10 mm. long, about 2–3 mm. broad, white.. Achenes in spherical heads, on pedicels reflexed in ripe fruit, persistent beak short, bordered margin very narrow and inconspicuous or absent, sides flat or rounded, smooth.. Fig. 4/3.
