Perennial herb with leafy stems up to 2.5 m., forming a dense clump.. Leaves narrowly obovate, 30-55 × 5.5-9 cm., abruptly caudate-acuminate, attenuate at base with a petiole 2-5 cm. long, glabrous; ligule very short, rounded; sheaths sulcate, sparsely reticulate, minutely puberulous in the furrows.. Inflorescence arising at the base of a leafy shoot, 20-30 cm. or more tall; peduncle-bracts 6-12 × 1.5-2 cm., papery, ± persistent in fruit, puberulous particularly towards the apex (one of the upper bracts may bear a reduced lamina); floral bracts oblong, rounded, 1.5 × 0.5 cm., glabrescent; bracteoles tubular, pubescent.. Calyx pale orange-brown, tubular, 3-toothed at the apex, pubescent, particularly towards the apex.. Petals whitish, translucent, oblong, apex rounded, 3.5 × 2 mm.. Labellum 12 mm. long, the free portion 3-lobed, 7.5 mm. wide and 6 mm. long.. Free filament 3.5 mm. long, apex rounded; anther 3.5 mm. long, completely dehiscent.. Ovary 3 mm. long, glabrous; style filiform.. Fruit subglobose to cylindrical, 6-12 × 5-7 mm., crowned by the persistent calyx which is 6-7 mm. long with 3 appressed-pubescent teeth at the apex..
