Characteristics

Shrub up to 1 m or more; branches scandent or erect, occasionally having a cinereous appearance. Leaves small, glabrous, more rarely cinereous pubescent; petiole (0-)2-3(-6) mm long; lamina of terminal leaflet (12-)15-25(-35) mm long, (3-)5-15(-18) mm broad; lamina of lateral leaflet (9-)12-25(-30) mm long, (-3)6-10(-15) mm broad; margin entire or with up to four (rarely six) dentations or crenations in all leaflets; juvenile foliage differing from adult foliage in having a longer petiole and larger leaflets with more and deeper dentations. Petals often with indumentum on outer side. Hypocotyl in seedling swelling before primary root, apparent above ground.

Branches, petioles, and leaves covered with close-pressed pubescence; leaves petiolate; leaflets sessile, or the terminal one shortly petiolate, oblong, with revolute margins, the terminal one cuneate at the dilated point, 3-lobed, the medial lobe larger, acute, the lateral ones obtuse, mucronulate; panicles terminal, elongated, leafless, pubescent. Very like the preceding, but differs by the cuneate, 3-lobed or 3-dentate, terminal leaflet. Petiole 6-9 lines long. Lateral leaflets 1.5-2 inches long, 6-7 lines wide, terminal 2.5-3 inches long, at the top 1 inch wide. Panicle as large as in the preceding; flowers very minute.
