Characteristics

Vine to 20 m; stems stout, glabrous, sparsely prickly or unarmed. Leaves whorled, opposite or alternate, elliptic, caudate to bluntly cuspidate, gradually tapering at base; lamina 8-17 cm long, 2.5-5.5 cm wide; petiole 6-13 mm long, often twisted. Inflorescence axillary or terminal; pedicels 2-7 mm long. Flowers numerous, 6-10 mm diam., white to pale cream or pale green. Sepals and petals 6-8 mm long, 3-4 mm wide. Stamens 7-9 mm long; filaments 2-4 mm long; anthers 4-6 mm long. Ovary ovoid, 2-3 mm long, glabrous; style 2-3.5 mm long; stigma capitate. Berry 6-15 mm diam., black. Seeds 1 to few, ovoid, 5-10 mm long, yellow-brown.
