Characteristics

Leaves 9–15 × 6–8 cm, broadly ovate, rounded at the base with the lamina produced into a narrowly cuneate portion about the midrib base to become somewhat decurrent on the upper part of the petiole, acuminate at the apex, regularly crenate on the margins from near the base to the apex with crenations 4–11 mm wide and 1–1.5 mm high; lamina thickly membranous, appressed sparsely hairy and olivaceous on the upper face, hairy to nearly glabrous and greyish beneath; petiole c. 10 mm long, with the decurrent lamina forming undulate wings in its apical part, pubescent.

Inflorescence a terminal panicle up to 8 cm long, with the rhachis and branches rather hairy; cymes loosely many-flowered; peduncles up to c. 4.5 cm long, pedicels 5–25 mm long, pubescent.
Calyx tube 4 mm long, campanulate; lobes c. 3.5 mm long and c. 3 mm wide, oblong, obtuse at the apex, reflexed, minutely lepidote on the inner face.
A tall shrub; branches leafy, somewhat flattened and ± pubescent towards the apex, subterete and glabrous in the lower part with a pale brown bark.
Corolla tube 11 mm long; corolla lobes 12–14 mm long and 5–8 mm wide, obovate-oblong, obtuse, glabrous on the outside.
Stamen filaments exceeding the corolla tube by c. 3 cm; anthers c. 2 mm long.
