Characteristics

Annual, occasionally perennial, rhizomatous herb, 0.15-0.50 m high; stems erect. Leaves herbaceous, lower leaves rosulate, long-petiolate ovate-cordate with blunt basal lobes; cauline leaves smaller. Inflorescences branched, leafless. Flowers in 2-5-flowered whorls; pedicels filiform, equaling flowers in length, articulated below middle. Flowering time July-Sept. Fruiting valves up to 5 x 6 mm, red, often with white scales in the centre. Fruit a nut, up to 2.5 mm long.
