Characteristics

Erect or scrambling shrub to 3 m tall; young stems brownish, sparsely distichously puberulous, soon glabrescent; older branches greyish, with conspicuous cup-like scars. Leaves with a few curly hairs on midrib, otherwise glabrous; petiole to 3 mm long; lamina ovate, largest 4-7 x 2-3 cm; apex subacute with small mucro, base attenuate; margin slightly to distinctly wavy. Cymes 3-7 cm long, many-flowered, unbranched; flowers in 3-flowered cymules or single towards apex of cyme; axis puberulous; lower pair of bracts foliaceous, upper pairs linear to subulate, to 1 cm long, caducous; pedicels to 2 mm long, glabrous; bracteoles subulate, to 8 mm long. Calyx 1.2-1.5 cm long, divided to c. 1 mm from base, glabrous; lobes subulate. Corolla white with small mauve dots on basal part of lower lip and extending into throat; tube c.5 mm long, c.3.5 mm wide at base, not widening upwards; throat c. 3 mm long; lobes oblong, subacute to rounded, 8-10 x 3-4 mm. Filaments terete, glabrous, 6-8 mm long; anthers c. 2 mm long, with small hooked spur at base. Capsule 2.8-4.8 cm long. Seeds broadly ellipsoid, 8-9 x 6.5-7.5 mm.
