Characteristics

Shrub or tree 2–6 m. tall, ?rarely scandent; stems glabrous, the older ones grey, sometimes ± reddish powdery beneath or with reddish brown epidermis which peels to reveal dark red-purple beneath.. Leaf-blades elliptic, 5–14 cm. long, 2–6 cm. wide, shortly and broadly acuminate to very narrowly acuminate at the apex, the actual tip acute or narrowly rounded, rounded to cuneate at the base, slightly discolorous, drying olive-green, glabrous save for hairy domatia or rarely adpressed pilose on the lamina; petiole 2–6 mm. long; stipules forming a sheath 1–2.5 mm. long, densely pilose within, with narrow subulate appendages 4–6 mm. long.. Inflorescences 2(–3)-flowered, often distinctly supra-axillary ± 5 mm. above the node; peduncle 1–2.5 cm. long; pedicels 0.5–1.8 cm. long; bracts 1.5 mm. long, apiculate.. Buds glabrous, markedly acuminate, the acumen 2–3 mm. long.. Calyx-tube 1.5 mm. long, the limb ± 1 mm. long, truncate or with minute teeth 0.5 mm. long.. Corolla green, yellow-green or cream-yellow; tube 2–3 mm. long, with some deflexed hairs inside below throat; lobes narrowly lanceolate, 4–4.5 mm. long including the 1.5–2 mm. long appendage.. Ovary 3–4-locular.. Fruit subglobose, 8–10 mm. long and wide, with 1–3 pyrenes, the fruiting pedicels to 2.3 cm. long.
