Characteristics

Small tree to 4 m. with brown glabrous branches eventually covered with thin grey corky bark.. Leaf-blades oblong to ovate-oblong, 2.5–8 cm. long, 1.2–3.2 cm. wide, acuminate at the apex, the actual tip narrowly rounded and minutely apiculate, truncate, rounded or usually subcordate at the base, slightly discoloured, glabrous save for pubescent domatia in axils and secondary axils of venation beneath; petioles 2–3 mm. long; stipular sheath cylindrical, 1.5–2 mm. long, ciliate at margin and with subulate or laterally compressed appendages 1–5 mm. long.. Flowers solitary; pedicels 8–10 mm. long, becoming up to 2.5 cm. long in fruit.. Calyx-tube campanulate, 2 mm. long; limb-tube 0.5 mm. long; lobes linear or subulate, 1–2(–4) mm. long, also sometimes one or 2 minute additional ones.. Buds with very distinct tails ± 1 cm. long.. Corolla yellow; tube 4–5 mm. long, glabrous outside, inside with a ring of deflexed hairs at the throat, otherwise glabrous; lobes oblong, 3–4 mm. long, 1.5–2 mm. wide, with tomentose margins, otherwise glabrous, terminated by linear-subulate deflexed appendages 6–12 mm. long..
